Return To Long Summer
Back to the yard in Preveza and back to Long Summer. What a feeling to see her again after six months! Relieved that she was in excellent condition after all this time, with no mould, creepy crawlies or unexpected nasties. All our hard work prepping her before haul out definitely paid off.
She’s had some work done over the winter: engine & outboard servicing, new throttle cables & levers installed, full wax & polish, gel coat touch-ups, and the biggest job of all, coppercoat antifoul. We’re hoping this new bottom paint will be better for both us and the environment. It should mean fewer haul outs, no more scrubbing toxic ablative paint underwater, lower fuel costs and better overall performance.
(If you want to read more about coppercoat, The Wholesome Sailors have put together a great detailed article on their blog.)
So, all that was left for us to do was reverse everything we had done before winter! But a few days of hard work was made a little easier by having the Captain’s dad, “Grimbly”, in town.
Next mission: splashdown!
